Dr. Sung Joon Kim - President
Our President and member of the board of directors, has 25 years of experience in the high technology industry as entrepreneur, general manager, and strategist. Previously, he founded an optical subsystem venture after designing, developing, and producing high speed fiber-optic subsystems that are in the field today. He was a general manager and founder of the transponder business unit at one of the leading communications companies in the world. He was previously at AT&T Bell Laboratories and a principal of the Technology Planning and Ventures Group where he was responsible for bringing technologies from Bell Labs into the commercial market. At Bell Labs, he led R&D activities in semiconductor communication laser technologies where he worked with advanced materials and processes. He has BSEE, MS, and PhD degrees from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and an MBA from Purdue University.
Dr. Michael MacMillan - Group Leader SiC EPITAXY Operations
Michael MacMillan is responsible for GPTG SiC epitaxy operations, a critical step in SiC device manufacturing. He has been involved with SiC epitaxy processing with over 20 years of experience in SiC and III-V growth and characterization. Previously, he was responsible for Global Applications Engineering and was a Senior SiC epitaxy Specialist at a major wide bandgap and SiC materials processing company. He has established and enabled SiC epitaxial capability with chlorosilane chemistry. He has also developed and implemented 100 mm and >50 um (5 KV) SiC epitaxy processes. Early in his career he was a SiC Epi Scientist at a leading defense contractor. He served as a SEMI member where he led a SiC resistivity standards group as well as participating in other SEMI SiC groups. He also served on an early stage of the ICSCRM 2011 Organizing Committee. He has over 60 articles on SiC published in peer-reviewed journals. He has a BS in Physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a PhD in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Richard Woodin - Group Leader SiC Device Operations
Richard Woodin is an industry veteran with over 30 years of hands-on experience with wide bandgap materials (including diamond and SiC), semiconductors, engineering, and operations. Most recently he set up and brought into operation a SiC device facility. Previously, he brought polycrystalline-diamond technology into production, brought up an aluminum nitride packaging business, and increased revenues 30X. He successfully developed over $30M in DARPA contracts, holds six US patents, and has published 50 peer-reviewed journal articles. He has a BS degree in Chemistry from Michigan State University and a PhD in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology.
Dr. Timothy Han - Group Leader of SiC Module Operations
Timothy is deeply involved in design and development of the advanced power electronics modules and subsystems using SiC devices for the next generation power transportation systems and alternative energy industry in Global Power Technologies Group. Dr. Han has 25 years experience in semiconductor devices, SiC power devices & packaging, optical components & packaging, and simulation of the power electronics systems. From 1988 to 1998, He served as a Principal Engineer at ETRI, Taejon, Korea. From 1999 to 2006, he was a Principal Research Engineer with the Lucent Technologies, Cenix, Inc, and Qlogic Corporation. Timothy has BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Busan National University and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from KAIST (Korea Advance Institute of Science and Technology).
Mr. Michael DiGangi is responsible for Global Power Technologies Group worldwide sales and marketing efforts as Group Leader. He brings with him over 20 years of Power and Analog IC semiconductor sales, business development and marketing experience spanning a number of larger corporations and start up’s. Prior to joining Global Power Technologies Group, Mr. DiGangi was Chief Business Development Officer of Sales and Marketing for startup GeneSiC Semiconductor which is a SiC Power Semiconductor maker. He was also Exec. Vice President of Solid State Power Products which was also a startup focused on the Industrial and High Power Electronic markets. Previously, he was Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing at Allegro Micro Systems, a Sanken Electric Company. Mr. DiGangi was an early employee at International Rectifier for over 10 years during the formidable growth of the company, with responsibilities as Vice President of Sales for the Americas and a number of senior sales and marketing management roles. He has a B.B.A. in Business Administration and an M.B.A from Wilmington University.
